Dr Robles had 15 years of clinical private practice and university teaching experience in Paediatric Dentistry and Community Dentistry before immigrating to Australia. On completion of his Australian Dental Council Examinations, he pursued a private practice in Townsville before becoming Senior Lecturer in Clinical Dentistry at James Cook University and Dentist-in-Charge of JCUDental Townsville - supervising final year students on clinical placement from 2014-2015.
Recognising the challenges in providing much needed dental services to rural and remote communities, Dr Robles established his own company Project Outback Dental (POD) Pty Ltd®. POD is the first and so far the only private practice in North Queensland to have its own mobile dental van, a compact wheelchair recliner and bariatric dental bench for clients requiring reinforced equipment for dental treatment, and a completely portable dental delivery cart system. Such specialised equipment allows Dr Robles to deliver dental services in patients’ homes, schools, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island rural communities, cattle stations, and aged care facilities.
His goal is to establish a sustainable business model for private dental practices that will allow the delivery of premium but affordable dental services to people experiencing physical, geographical, and economic difficulties in obtaining dental care.
His passion for indigenous oral health also led Dr Robles to collaborate with the Townsville Aboriginal and Islander Health Service (TAIHS) in delivering dental services to its dental department in Townsville and its outreach clinics.
A more recent endeavour is POD's delivery of regular dental services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boarding schools in North Queensland - at Saint Patrick's College in Townsville, St Teresa's College Abergowrie and the NRL Cownboys House.
Dr Robles later established MYTOOTHDOCTOR®, POD’s ‘dental home’ in Townsville for all its Outback clients. MYTOOTHDOCTOR® is within the Bushland Beach Medical Centre Complex allowing Dr Garret and his team to work with GPs and allied health professionals on patients with medical co-conditions.
Dr Robles is also a credentialled VMO (Paediatric Dentistry) at the Townsville Mater Hospital where he performs dental rehabilitation under general anaesthetic on children and patients of all ages with special needs.
For continuing professional development and mentorship from specialists, Garret maintains membership with the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry Queensland Branch (ANZSPD Qld), a member of the International Association of Dental Traumatology (IADT), the Australian Society of Special Care in Dentistry (ASSCID) and the Australian Dental Association (ADAQ).
